The Wood farm has been in the family since 1900. Dick's grandfather, Thomas Wood, bought the farm in 1900, and Dick's father, Charles, bought the farm in 1938. Charles built the house and most of the out buildings that year. Dick and his wife Janet bought the farm in 1988. The corncrib itself was built for ear corn storage in 1948, and was converted to shelled corn storage in 1975. Now the building is used for storing machinery. It was originally constructed with wood siding; the current steel siding was added in 1975. The quilt pattern is called "LeMoyne Star" and is displayed in memory of Dick's wife, Janet. Painting of this block was funded in part by Lincoln Savings Bank in Reinbeck, Iowa. |
