Don's
hog house was moved to its current location
on his century farm from another century farm
about 30 years ago. The actual location of this
building on Don's farm is due to the fact that the
vehicle that was being used to move it broke down
in that particular spot, and the structure remained
there. This hog house was used as a country store
for a period of time, and was also painted a golden
yellow. However, there was only enough paint to
cover three sides of the building, so the side facing
the road was never painted. Don's barn was the
first of the Grundy County Barn Quilts to be
completed, and the quilt pattern displayed here
is known as "Windmill." First
State Bank in
Conrad, Iowa sponsored the painting of this quilt
block.
