"Dutchman's Puzzle" is the name of the quilt block that adorns this barn, located southeast of Grundy Center.   The barn, built in 1940, had already been standing for five years when the Kuhlman family purchased the farmin 1945.   The barn was originally used to hold cattle and hay, and is currently used for sheep and hay.   There is a natural spring in the pasture south of the barn that has always provided water for the animals and farm families living there.   The spring provided pure, clear water that many neighbor women would come to use for coffee if they had a special dinner to serve. Pumpkins and squash are still sold at this location in the fall.  The "Dutchman's Puzzle" quilt block was painted by the McMartin family with paint from Diamond Vogel, and was also sponsored in part by Grundy National Bank.
