This beautiful farm has been in the family since 1868 when is was purchased by Tricia's great grandfather when he immigrated to the United States from Denmark and his wife and four children.  The current barn was built in 1950 on the site of the first barn built for the homestead in the late 1800's.  The first barn was dismantled and parts of it were used to build the current barn.  The large vertical posts were salvaged and used to build the new barn.  You can still see on those posts the rectangular cut-outs where another beam was inserted then held together with 1'' to 1.5" wooden pins.  The current barn was built with two large indoor pens on each side to provide shelter for beef cattle.  It also had a small milking room in front with two stanchions for the cows used to provide milk and cream for the house.  The barn is currently used for shelter for beef cattle, a horse, cats and kittens and equipment storage.  The haymow is restocked each year with square baled hay.

The quilt blocks entitled "Prairie Queen" were painted on the east side of the barn by the owner and family.
