The quilt block "Kentucky Chain" sort of became a part of the Barn Quilt Project by adoption.  The block had been painted and mounted by the farmstead owners, and after a few weeks of it being up, someone noticed the new block and asked about it.  So the Barn Quilts of Grundy County sort of adopted this block into the family and we are glad to have it.

The farmstead the block sits on was established in the late 1800's and has always been owned by the Janssen family.  The title shows the farm house was built in 1900.  Their ancestors had previously lived in a cabin just a few yards west of the current home.  The corncrib was built in 1958 and was used to store corn.  It was built with lumber and iron reinforcements and a concrete base.  The architecture of the building proved to provide strength and integrity for the ease of removing stored ear corn.  It served as a natural drying storage structure.

"Kentucky Chain" was painted and mounted in the fall of 2008.
