Harberts barn, located north of Grundy Center on Hwy. 14 (N Ave.) is the home to not one, but two quilt blocks.  Judith Harberts had picked the first block, "Contrary Wife" and as she was looking online at other quilt blocks and patterns, she came across another block that fits in with the theme perfectly, "Contrary Husband."  "Contrary Wife" faces south on the barn, which also faces the home, "Contrary Husband" faces north and into the fields.  The Harberts barn has been in the family since Great Grandfather Dick Harberts purchased it in 1869.  The actual building was built and completed in 1948 and was used for dairy and an all purpose barn.  Today, it is used for storage, orphan lambs and occasionally cattle.  When this farm was built, great grandfather Harberts chopped a path for great grandmother Harberts to walk to Grundy Center.  And the Harberts home farm place was one of the first all white farms in Grundy County!
This block was mounted on August 27, 2007 with the help of Alliant Energy.
